I replaced it with a 5800x that I got on sale. Rarely ever used the full compute of the 5900x.

Roughly speaking, the 3070's doubled the PPD of the 2070's. The 4070ti has roughly doubled (or more) the 3070 series. I think that is pretty impressive.

The extra $ and power draw for the 4090 never appealed to me. So I went the 4080 route....

I just had a 5900X die...... F. It was a few years old, but still!

18213 will have the highest PPD and 18723 is a Cancer and will have some of the lowest PPD.

Wow, the 4070 is showing about 5 mil PPD :) A 4070 Ti should be showing PPD estimates in the 9-14M range, depending on WU. Maybe a little lower on Windows. It sounds like Kebast hasn't set aside any CPU cores to manage the GPU, and that's going to affect GPU performance. He has 12 threads left over...

That's pretty low for a typical WU on a 4070. Is it a cancer WU?

The cards do there best on Alzheimers, influenza not so well... You can set a preference for WU's in the config.

Several things to look at: - Are you getting a lot of Cancer WU's? Those have pretty low PPD production of 4000 series cards (3000 series too). However, I haven't seen many Cancer WU's lately... - Having the CPU fold at the same time will lower the PPD on the GPU. Not as much as yours is showing, bu...

Folding is rather addicting for some reason. I started not much before you, March 2020 (when Covid went splat on the spinning fan). Found myself progressively getting more and more hardware, then selling those to get better hardware

One more thing to consider. It'll be a tight fit for a 4090 plus any card on the Mobo. You'll need a rack setup or similar.

I have several dedicated folding machines (it's a sickness).

My .02, (4) A2000's will equate to 1 3070ti in PPD and total wattage and leave the system with more expansion options. I don't know how much the A2000's cost though. But a 3070Ti could be had on Ebay for ~$450.

But are there any cause-specific projects which are larger and more appropriate for me then, so that I can set that as a preference?

Alzheimers seems to get the most out of these cards.
