Re: HOWTO: How I got my R9 290 folding on Linux
Have an R9 270X but the only drivers I'm seeing on the AMD site are for Ubuntu 14. Going to try using the 290's driver and see if that helps. Nope - that is causing X to hang. That's a GCN 1.0 (1st gen) card. I don't know what the story is with those. I believe they are not as well supported on Lin...

Re: how about enabling TLS on your Assignment Servers?
Your computer is using CPU cycles to encrypt and decrypt this webpage. Every other computer in the world does too thousands of times a day and you don't see anyone complaining about wasting money. Your "no benefit whatsoever" claim is greatly flawed. Take a cybersecurity class or somethin...

Re: how about enabling TLS on your Assignment Servers?
In addition, all of the WU's and other files passed over the connections are digitally signed, so someone attempting to insert their own files would have trouble doing so. Raw IP numbers are used for many of the connections, they are harder to spoof for MITM attacks. This is the important fact that...

Re: It's getting better now, isn't it?
It hardly matters, honestly. The science is still getting done. There's nothing to suggest that any results are getting lost. It's just taking some time to count them in the stats system and credit points.

Re: bug report for Linux client?
FAHClient might not respond to environment variables like HTTPS_PROXY, but that's not really a "bug". It's just the lack of a feature. There are, however, client options for using an HTTP proxy: Network: proxy <string=> Set proxy for outgoing HTTP connections proxy-enable <boolean=false> E...

It would be interesting to hear some insight from someone with knowledge of the internals.

Re: It's getting better now, isn't it?
That would be correct only if every distributed WU came back with an hour. Most take at least 2 hours to complete so there will be a delay in the return stats. Only in the short run. If there is a sustained period of X WUs being assigned per hour, we would expect to see the same number coming back,...

Re: It's getting better now, isn't it?
https://apps.foldingathome.org/credit-log Correct me if i'm wrong, but the numbers on this page seem way too low to me. On the Server Stats page the WU assign rate is constantly above 100.000 WU/hour since days, so i expect to see those 100.000 getting credited every hour, but instead there are onl...

Re: HOWTO: How I got my R9 290 folding on Linux
I tried following this, but I have still not made it work. I am running RX550 and Mint 19.3 . I have installed orca, but I am still getting this error 16:05:49:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Failed to start core: OpenCL device matching slot 1 not found, try setting 'opencl-index' manually Any ideas what I could e...

Re: I've noticed a pattern
Probably because it's resetting the next attempt timer for contacting the server again. You can achieve the same effect by pausing and resuming the slot.

Re: It's getting better now, isn't it?
I am getting plenty of work, but my backlog of uploading jobs is twenty at this time. FAH has used more than 20GB of bandwidth in the past few days trying to upload work units. Most fail repeatedly at 40% to 99% uploaded. If the servers would limit their number of simultaneous connections, the thro...

Re: What really happens when you delete a WU?
AIUI WORK_QUIT will trigger immediate reassignment, but will not credit any points (ie, it knows you dumped it). Returning a faulty WU will get you partial credit. That's the bit I'm not sure about. I think when you dump a WU the official way (with --dump), you still get WORK_ACK and it shows up on...

Re: HOWTO: How I got my R9 290 folding on Linux
Yeah, I didn't use the install script because I don't expect it to be designed for this very specific use case, and I don't trust it to do it properly.
