Re: Tips & tricks for saving power & keeping hardware health

In the past I've taken to fiddling around with under the hood solutions to keep a processor from running at full tilt but after doing that enough times I decided to go with an approach that eliminates the fiddling. I got a large and very capable CPU cooler and a hybrid cooled GPU. No more fiddling a...

Re: Servers ready for another 10x PPD increase?

I don't see that happening. In fact I expect the WU being processed will level off in about six to ten weeks. (somewhat a side note: Interestingly 2019 shows a pretty significant dip for WU's processed. I'm not sure what that is about but it is curious.) The reason why I think it is going to level o...

Re: Updated client and control, can't connect

So to follow up this has worked. This time I've been doing things in smaller bites, I updated just the client and it started working on its own. The next step will be to update FAH Control from 7.5.1. I was concerned earlier about being able to null out the password but that was a total non issue. J...

I already Time shifted back to former configuration. Once the client is finished running a current WU I will attempt to null the password and run another WU before trying updating again.

Thanks for the help Foldy. :)

[SOLVED] Updated client and control, can't connect

Updated to the latest version of 7.6.9 after reading about it, this is on Linux. The control panel flashes between connecting inactive and updating inactive. It complained about invalid password when the control panel started. I tried putting in the password I have recorded and it still does the sam...

The amount of work getting processed must be mind blowing to the FAH core team. :eo

Criteria for GPU retirement

So this question is just out of curiosity and boredom. What makes for the reasons that the FAH team will disqualify or retire GPU's in the line up for acceptable processors? It is a time calculation? Just too old for current techniques or requirements? Very low percentage of the user base?...

Re: Am I the only one not getting GPU projects?

Appears to be a shortage of GPU WU's. I'm sure that they are working on it. :)

Re: Ryzen R7 2700x vs R5 3600x

Depending on the height of your DRAM and the clearance in the case, you can mount the outer CPU fan slightly elevated. Yeah I tried that at the time, it was just ever so slightly too tight to allow for putting the case panel back on. Not fussed about it though because otherwise the cooler does a fa...

Re: Ryzen R7 2700x vs R5 3600x

I also opted for the 3700X, for me it hit all of the sweet spots. Running it on a MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX. The combination has been rock solid. The one thing I went extra on was to get a Noctua D15 SE-AM4 cooler. The cooler is fantastic but you will need DRAM that has no extra elevation to it if you w...

Re: 5700XT: fans don't start even at over 100C

Go in to the Radeon Driver and manually set the fan to 60% or so. Ive seen this kind of behavior under Linux as well as it seems it is a "feature" of the AMD Drivers to sporadically either mis report the fan speeds or the fan control algorithm to go a little crazy. Hmm, I wonder if it is ...

Re: FAHBench (OpenMM 5.1)

So I'm curious what would long time Folders suggest using while waiting for an updated FAHBench version. There is the perspective of raw performance and the perspective of system stress test. Do you run different packages (more work) to get a more complete idea of what the system is capable of and u...
