The Gene Machine and Me

This article: http://spectrum.ieee.org/biomedical/dev ... ne-and-me# is fascinating. As you read this article, it's immediately obvious how these machines can be used to sequence large (statistically significant) pools of people with known diseases such as Parkinson's and Alzheimers. With enough ind...

Project 7039 (0, 32, 6) - No Credit Given For Completed WU?

I have a WU, (i.e. Project 7039, Run 0, Clone 32, Gen 6), which completed over two hours ago. My cursory examination of the log indicates that the completed WU was successfully returned. However I do not see any credit (points) reflected via a check of the Donor Stats page. I'm still showing the sam...

Re: Completed WU (Apparently) Hung In "Send" Mode

I usually have two slots simultaneously executing WUs on my machine - one is a GPU slot and the other is an SMP slot. It's now been close to 18 hours with my machine "hung" and getting no production out of one of the slots. Can someone please tell me how to dump a non-executing slot so tha...

Completed WU (Apparently) Hung In "Send" Mode

I have a WU, (i.e. 10501 (182, 0, 1016)), which completed execution over an hour ago. It appears to be stuck in "Send" mode. Here are the details. Send ID (slot?) = 01 (There is another WU in "Download" status in slot 00, but it has not begun executing. It appears to be waiting f...

Software Reveals New Clues to Degenerative Diseases

While searching the web for information on Parkinson's disease, I stumbled upon this fascinating site, (i.e. "Medical News Today"), which is chock full of very well written articles on the latest research breakthroughs on just about every disease imaginable. Here is an article I stumbled a...

Dr. Pande Might Consider Giving a "TED" Talk

I’ve managed to stumble across a very interesting web site (i.e. http://www.TED.com) which features talks by interesting people from all walks of life addressing subjects of widespread interest – as well as esoteric topics such as “ Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Orgasm ” – as well as other intere...

Re: PRCG 6338, 40, 44, 7 Bad? (Was FahCore_a4.exe stopped)

<snip> There has been speculation in this and other threads that there may be a subtle (intermittent) programming flaw that is occurring in only some (or a few) of the 6338 WUs - this flaw (or "bug") is not endemic to all of the 6338 WUs. Successful execution of 6338 (49, 61, 2) on my mac...

Another Project 6338 Execution Error?

This is a strange one ... Upon downloading and attempting to commence execution of another Project 6338 WU, I received the following error message dialog from Microsoft. FahCore_a4.exe FahCore_a4.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the...

Science and Serendipity

I’m reading the book “DNA: The Secret of Life” by James D. Watson, the famed Nobel laureate and co-discover (with the late Francis Crick) of the structure of the DNA molecule. We are often led to believe that science is a methodical painstaking process where discovery is the result of much plodding ...

Re: PRCG 6338, 40, 44, 7 Bad? (Was FahCore_a4.exe stopped)

Almost precisely a week ago in a separate thread I reported a core crash which a few of you suspected might be related to processing of Project 6338 WUs. Last night another (Windows) error message dialogue popped up over the FAH Client Control informing me that something had gone wrong in the a4 cor...

Gold Mine!!

I had an amazing experience earlier this evening which bears directly on how we go about recruiting new FAH donor-participants. I was having dinner at a local restaurant when a group of approximately ten young people came in and sat down at a long table very close to where I was sitting. As one of t...

Re: BSOD Crash? (Emergency!)

I use MSE and like it, but what kind of advice would you expect from a Microsoft guy: Get rid of AVG and use our product.... Whether you eventually return to AVG or switch to MSE, you must scan your system with some other AV software. If you have acquired a virus, it might have infected anything, i...

Re: Core Crash? (BSOD System Stop!)

I admit this doesn't actually address the issue behind your BSOD, but personally I don't get concerned over one-off BSODs or crashes. If it starts becoming a recurring problem, then I'll try to figure out what's wrong. Usually it's some random glitch that doesn't occur again. You shouldn't need to ...
