Re: OpenCL vs CUDA

It is enabled automatically on Nvidia GPUs if supported. You see it in the logfile in FahControl e.g. 06:17:57:WU00:FS01:0x22:Platform 2: OpenCL 06:17:57:WU00:FS01:0x22: opencl-device 0 specified 06:17:57:WU00:FS01:0x22:Platform 3: CUDA 06:17:57:WU00:FS01:0x22: cuda-device 0 specified 06:18:10:WU00:...

Re: OpenCL vs CUDA

Now FAH has enabled CUDA on nvidia GPUs. But I see also one CPU core used by FAH to feed the GPU slot. OpenMM has the option to use blocking sync instead of busy waiting. Can this be enabled by FAH user in the FahClient? How much does it hurt PPD? UseBlockingSync: This is used to control how the CUD...

The start folding link https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/ also still shows V7.6.13 and not latest V7.6.21 for Windows?

In Germany to protect against faster spreading Corona mutation B117, they start to wear FFP2/N95 masks mandatory next week.

Re: Start folding with a Raspberry Pi

So it is $35 to buy a Pi 4 and it gets max 3000 PPD using 5 watts running 4 cores.

Any PC with GPU can beat that easily.

Re: Start folding with a Raspberry Pi

How much PPD do you get on a Pi 3 or 4? And what is the power usage?

Re: Detected clock skew[...], I/O delay, laptop hibenation o

Now after about another hour i did not monitor whats going on, not only the log is back to normal, even the progress bar is showing what the log tells. The 99% really means the UI lost connection to the Fahcore and just increases % every minute or so speculative. After the UI got connection...

Re: New coronavirus variant

First vaccines work great and corona virus mostly die after more people get the vaccine. Then virus mutates and probably finds a way to workaround vaccine. Then we need new modified vaccine for next winter.

Not necessary anymore to do manual tweaks. It is done by FahCore automatically.

Re: OpenCL on ARM or Xbox

Yes it needs a Windows store app. But the problem for Xbox was it does not have OpenCL driver. With OpenCLonDX12 now FAH has an option.

Re: Monetary Donation Cloud Compete Concept

One option for cheaper cloud compute is to use private rent PCs like at https://vast.ai/console/create/ Because you don't really need a variable cloud data center but individual GPUs to run folding like at home. You would only need one expert who does setup of machines in cluod and register the dono...

Re: OpenCL on ARM or Xbox

For ARM devices running Windows Insider it can now also run OpenCL apps on top of DX12 https://devblogs.microsoft.com/directx/announcing-the-opencl-and-opengl-compatibility-pack-for-windows-10-on-arm/ OpenCLOn12 has MIT license and is fully compliant with OpenCL 1.2 Don't know if a similar approach ...

OpenCL on ARM or Xbox

Microsoft now also provides an OpenCL driver which runs on top of DirectX12. This would it make possible in theory to run FAH on Xbox X when FAH delivers this OpenCL wrapper. https://github.com/microsoft/OpenCLOn12

Re: Your thoughts....

Server GPUs like AMD Radeon Instinct are very expensive, because of AMD Support and they have much expensive VRAM - which FAH does not use. A consumer GPU like AMD RX 6800 XT or Nvidia RTX 3080 is always the better choice.

Re: GeForce RTX 3080 and 3090 support enabled !

RTX 3080 e.g. has 8.704 FP32 units (nvidia doubled them compared to previous GPU gen). If not all cores can be used by a single FAH work unit then workaround could be to run 2 work units concurrently.
