Re: Change in BA requirements

Let's not go down the rathole of points as they relate to atoms, ns, etc, as it has been beaten to death in other threads and other forums. My suggestion had to do with asking an economist to evaluate the actual time value of research.

Re: Change in BA requirements

I just thought of another way an economist can help the project (besides my previous suggestion of helping balance points between projects using economic concepts). An economist might actually be able to help PG put a real time value on research. As far as I know, the bonus calculations were basical...

Re: Change in BA requirements

This would be a good case for moderator intervention, in that the recent posts solely discussing what moderators might/might not have done are entirely unrelated to the original topic and should be split into a separate topic.

Re: Potentially offtopic: curecoins ?

I'd be curious to know what differentiates this from Gridcoin other than the use of FAH rather than BOINC. Gridcoin is up and running but I don't see "thousands of massive GPU farms" jumping to it.

Re: Change in BA requirements

I also have a suggestion along the lines of equal pay for equal work. Folding@home has always tried to be hardware and software agnostic, however various operating systems have been more difficult on which to develop software than others. For example, they currently only have BA work for the Linux ...

Re: Change in BA requirements

There is already a severe problem with point-inflation. Adding points to SMP just aggravates the issue. Doing so temporarily just causes alienation when you stop giving them. The SMP people will react no less aggrieved to a decrease in SMP points than the bigadv group does for the exact same reason...

Re: Change in BA requirements

The real solution is so obvious - PG created too much demand for bigadv by making the reward high. All they need to do is create more demand for SMP by making its reward appropriately high - whether on a temporary or permanent basis. Begging seems like an acknowledgement that they really don't know ...

Re: Change in BA requirements

If you keep increasing points, as you suggest, our original few years continue to be less and less significant compared to what folks are earning today. You'd be penalizing the old-timers who earned a lot of points a long time ago. It's called "points inflation" when every change increase...

An interesting examination of "equal points for equal work"

Found on the EVGA forum here http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.aspx?m=1909690 , an interesting comparison/projection of the PPD of CPU and GPU clients using existing client and benchmark data, by jedi95, author of the popular GPU Tracker (a GUI interface to the F@H client from before the F@H client had ...

Re: FAH Business Card Design (Update)

There is no such thing as "Stanford Medical School". "Stanford University" should suffice.

Why not - GreyWhiskers started in 1963, which is awfully close to 50, and Joe_H has 205 years experience (viewtopic.php?p=230287#p230287), so there may be people in between.

Re: Programming background of community

I created an expanded version of this poll since a lot of information seems to be lost in the 5+ category.

Programming background of community - expanded

Here's a redo of the earlier poll, expanded to provide more information in the results, and to be more inclusive. Select your years of computer programming experience; no limits on languages. Anything from the smallest microprocessor to the largest mainframe counts; doesn't matter if it was built wi...

Re: Blog post: "Unified GPU/SMP benchmarking scheme ..."

I have to disagree with part of 7im's post ( though maybe I am misinterpreting it). Even if a cloud of ARM chips does become the most productive way to run their research, they still wouldn't go there unless it was something widely adopted by consumers. The low hanging fruit principle applies to har...
