Re: HowTo Question: Convert from 7.6 machine to Beta 8.3

You can just install 8.3 over the existing 7.6 install. The installer will read the config.xml file for settings and use most of them. v8 stores its settings inside a client.db file instead of config.xml. The 7.6 FAHClient executable will be replaced with the v8 fah-client and FAHControl will be rem...

18429 is a continuation of other projects in the 1842n range, the link to the description may be missing or broken. There is this description from others in the series - https://stats.foldingathome.org/project/18420. The Project Summary page provides basic information on active projects - https://ap...

Re: Some errors and no points from GPU workload

Besides a system sleeping, I have seen clock skew reported on a machine that had I/O stall. In this case the ribbon cable connecting the hard drive to the logic board of a laptop had gone bad, replacing the cable fixed the problem. There were reports in th system log of delayed reads and writes to t...

Re: Using Intel HD Graphics 630 GPU and temperature

A - The HD Graphics 630 is at about the minimum Intel iGPU that can complete WUs on time, but there often are none of the smaller projects they can do available. It took specific drivers with full OpenCL support downloaded from Intel to allow folding on one of these in the past, I am not certain wha...

Re: No work assigments...

About the only thing I am seeing is that over the last 2-3 weeks a couple thousand more clients became active doing folding. Depending on what GPUs they are bringing with them that might have increased the demand for WUs suitable for high end GPUs such as the 3060 and 3090.

Re: Where computers go to die

Welcome to the folding support forum. You will be able to run folding on individual machines, but MPI interconnects over ethernet are not fast enough for the folding core processing. The inter-thread data reconciliation would just take too long and slows processing way down. The folding core needs t...

Welcome to the folding support forum.

Thanks for posting the solution you found in the time between your first post and when I approved it about half an hour later. It may help someone else who runs into the same or similar problem.

Re: 8.3.5 versus 7.6

V8 is faster on Apple Silicon, because the client and cores are compiled native. To clarify, the v7 client doe not have the necessary options to identify an Apple Silicon processor to the Assignment and Work Servers to download the native core. So the Intel core ends up being downloaded and used wh...

Re: Any possible way to manually override checkpoint frequency?

No. Those values of a minimum of 3 minutes and maximum of 30 are coded into the client with a default of 15. Changing that value in FAHControl only effects CPU project WU checkpoints. They do not apply to GPU folding where the checkpoint frequency is set by the researchers for the WUs of a given pro...

Re: 8.3.5 versus 7.6

No.

The client doesn't do any of the actual folding work, just handles WU downloads and uploads and provides monitoring and control functions. The actual work is done by the downloaded folding cores and v8 uses the same ones as v7.

Re: 131.239.113.97 : Server responded PLEASE_WAIT (464)

The collection server is set as part of the WU downloaded. If the client is not trying another server, about the only suggestion I have that might work is blocking connections to 131.239.113.97 and seeing if the client does fail over to a designated CS. If it doesn't, then the CS wasn't set in the W...
